Workshop Announcement: April 14 & 15, Water Use Conflicts and the Future of North State Water Resources This two-day event will examine water resource issues from the global, national, and state perspectives. Topics will cover an historical view of water use conflicts including the effect of Los Angeles' exploitation of the Owens Valley and the more recent conflicts regarding the appropriate use of water from the San Joaquin and Klamath Rivers. The future demand for California's water resources will be examined in light of the various options for increasing state water supplies and the potential savings from urban and agricultural conservation. Finally, the Friday afternoon session will be devoted to a topic of particular interest to North State residents; that is, water transfers out of agriculture in the northern Sacramento Valley to satisfy agricultural and urban demand in the southern portion of the state.
