The Central Sierra Watershed Committee (CSWC), which includes multi-County Public and Private Partners, is dedicated to conserving and restoring the area’s watersheds.  In 1998, the Committee applied for a Proposition 204 Planning Grant.  It was funded and the contract between the State and Madera County was signed in December 1999. 

 

q      Developing the Eastern Madera County and Mariposa County Long Term Plan for Watershed Conservation and Restoration (MC2LTP), and

q      Establishing a Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Area

 The MC2LTP will involve eastern Madera and Mariposa Counties, and include the watersheds of the Merced, Chowchilla, Fresno and San Joaquin Rivers within these Counties. The MC2LTP will:

ü          Establish policies and procedures for watershed restoration

ü          Identify impaired watersheds

ü          Assist stakeholders in prioritizing the environmental problems, natural resources issues, restoration plans

ü          Coordinate and organize watershed projects, including those already approved in the area

ü          Develop collaborative resolutions for improving the area’s watersheds and their surrounding habitat

ü          Develop display maps of the project area

ü          Include a pictorial description of the watersheds

ü          Establish guidelines for monitoring the area’s watershed, and

ü          Document priorities in the MC2LTP.

  The Central Sierra Watershed Committee has been appointed as the Steering Committee for the proposed Yosemite RC&D. The CSWC members include: California Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Forestry and Fire, Natural Resource Conservation Service, United States Forest Service, Mariposa and Coarsegold Resource Conservation Districts, CSU Fresno, Pacific Gas & Electric, Madera County Department of Agriculture, Army Corp of Engineers, California Department of Fish & Game, private citizens, community organizations and ranchers.
